Shaler Area students back in Japan

Hello and greetings from Japan! I am Steven Balsomico, the Japanese teacher at the high school. Myself and 8 Shaler students have come to Japan through the Laurasian Institution's New Perspectives Japan program to learn more about Japanese language and culture, and over the next ten days, the students will be posting here about their experiences on the other side of the world.  We will be visiting Tokyo for the first three days, then moving to a small town called Joyo in the center of the country, followed by three days in Japan's traditional capital, Kyoto.  Thank you for joining us as the students learn about a different culture, a different language, and perhaps most importantly, eat the most delicious food imaginable.

Today we arrived in Japan after what could be called a grueling 20 hour journey. Arriving at the airport, we had some time to kill while waiting got the shuttle to our hotel. Students had the opportunity to shop at the stores and experience the differences in Japanese drinks and snacks. The evening was very low key as we recovered from our flights, and we ordered delivery from my personal favorite Japanese restaurant. Tomorrow we will begin our sightseeing in Tokyo! Thank you for following along!
